As AMEU's annual flagship event, the Economics Summit is the culmination of efforts from AMEU to propagate the three core tenets of academic knowledge, social policy and commercial awareness among the student community. An ambitious venture, the Summit includes panels and interactive sessions, hosting some of the brightest Malaysian academics and professionals, imparting valuable knowledge to youths.
The AMEU Economics Summit 2025, themed “A Stronger ASEAN: Youth, Unity & Malaysia’s Role Ahead”, concluded on August 9th at Sasana Kijang, Bank Negara Malaysia. This year’s summit focused on bridging the youth engagement gap by creating opportunities for young leaders to contribute to ASEAN’s political, economic, and social development. The event featured keynote speeches, panel discussions, fireside chats, and an interactive townhall, with fireside chat sessions focusing on ASEAN’s digital economy, sustainability, and business potential. With 653 participants and outstanding social media engagement, the summit successfully empowered youth to broaden their perspectives and actively contribute to ASEAN’s development.
The AMEU Economics Summit 2024, themed “Information Gap: Malaysia’s Hidden Potential,” brought together over 315 participants, 16 distinguished speakers, 10 booths, 7 sponsors, 40 volunteers, and 27 student ambassadors for a full day of impactful engagement. The event featured opening addresses by the Organising Chairpersons, followed by keynote speeches from prominent industry leaders, including Noor Amy Ismail and Dato Ong Eng Bin.
Throughout the summit, participants engaged in dynamic panel discussions, fireside chats with experts in entrepreneurship, sustainability, and finance, as well as an interactive townhall session moderated by senior industry figures. The summit concluded with a closing keynote by Doreenn Leong and final remarks from AMEU’s leadership, celebrating the collaborative efforts that made the event a success. The AMEU Economics Summit 2024 stood out as a platform for thought leadership, youth empowerment, and constructive dialogue on Malaysia’s economic opportunities and challenges.
Themed “Malaysia Disrupted : Inclusivity in The Digital Economy”, the summit aims to cultivate a generation of individuals acutely aware by the importance of digital economics, by exploring the impact of digitalization on Malaysia’s socioeconomics and address key questions of economic resilience, particularly regarding inclusivity and business strength. Centered around digital economics, our objective is to examine risks embedded in the Malaysian economy and develop strategies to fortify the nation against these challenges in the digital landscape.
Esteemed speakers who participated in the event include Mr Aadrin Azly, Dr. Vimala Balakrishnan, Ir. Dr. Karl Ng, Dr. Rachel Gong, Mr Kuek Ser Kuang Keng, Dr. Nurmazilah Dato’ Mahzan, Mr Naysan Munusamy, Mr Paul Liang Chee Pong, Mr Ghiyazuddin Ali Mohammad and Mr Jonathan Dason. Topics discussed in the panel session were A Data-driven Malaysia: Benefits and Challenges Moving Forward and Harnessing Digital Innovation for Financial Inclusion for SMEs. Collaborative interactive sessions were conducted in partnership with distinguished hosts from KRI, BCG, ICMR, EPF and Silverlake.

A post-COVID economy may be beyond recognition, but not something that we cannot shape. “Economic Resurgence: History in the Making” encouraged participants to chart a superior trajectory that facilitates and encourages international trade, instead of letting the economy slip back into its pre-COVID state.
Themed “Economics After Tomorrow: Building Malaysia’s Economic Resilience”, the summit aims to probe into the critical questions of economic resilience, focusing on job security and business resilience. Negative risks impacts embedded within the Malaysian economy and strategies to sustain Malaysia against these risks in the world of trade amidst the COVID-19 pandemic are also addressed in the summit.
The 2023 Summit discussed what lies ahead for Malaysia's economy as 2020 is forthcoming and how youths can work towards achieving the future our forefathers envisioned. Problems of socioeconomic inequality and rising costs of living affecting grassroots were taken into consideration in achieving the vision set.
AMEU held its annual event with the theme of “The Malaysian Economy: Awakening the Asian Tiger”. The summit seeks to discuss how Malaysia has always been seen as a “tiger cub” economy despite having the potential to become a high income nation. AMEU Economics Summit 2019 explore how Malaysia can become an Asian Tiger by tackling challenges such as wage stagnation and the middle income trap while taking advantage of opportunities such as the ASEAN digital revolution.
We had the honour of having distinguished speakers such as Professor Dr. Jomo Kwame Sundaram, Distinguished Professor Dr. Rajah Rasiah and Tengku Dato’ Sri Zafrul Aziz present as our keynote speakers. Panel discussion topics included the Middle-Income Trap & Wage Stagnation and the ASEAN Digital Revolution Panel. Themed ‘The Malaysian Project, Empowering Pioneers’, this 2018 summit edition mainly discussed about what lies ahead for Malaysia’s economy as the year 2020 is around the corner and how youths will work towards achieving the future that our forefathers envisioned. Problems such as socioeconomic inequality and the rising cost of living that still affect grassroot were also highlighted.
Our inaugural Summit in 2017 was built on the theme of “Malaysia: Economics in the Asian Century”. The summit discussed how Malaysia should formulate its trade policies in the Asian Century, the extent to which these policies would be affected by the structural problems in the country, as well as how business transactions would succumb to the rippling changes in the Asian Century.
It welcomed a total of 13 distinguished speakers, 4 sponsors, 5 strategic partners, and 350 delegates, including corporate leaders, professionals, undergraduates, postgraduates, professionals, pre-university and high school students.
